Barbara’s work is grounded in atmosphere and light. Her practice is fast, intuitive, and experimental. She allows paint to flow and bloom naturally, embracing soft washes, subtle granulation, and bleeding edges. A coastal-leaning palette and minimal detail create quiet drama and a sense of space; her paintings distill light, mood, and memory, inviting viewers into the experience of a place.
This quote from the Japanese master, Hokusai expresses perfectly Barbara’s heartfelt desire to deepen her relationship with nature through painting.
“I have drawn things since I was six. All that I made before the age of 65 is not worth counting. At seventy-three I began to understand the the true construction of animals, birds, trees, plants and insects. At ninety I will enter into the secret of things. At a hundred and ten everything- every dot, every dash- will live.”
